i've told him that i think he's great the way he is and that i appreciate him a lot! but i don't want to take time away from him that he could spend with someone else i know there's someone else he'd rather spend more time with

Well, even if Daisuke might have a crush on someone, that doesn't mean that he wouldn't want to spend time with you. I'm pretty sure that he would really happy to spend all of his time with you if he could so you don't have to worry about "taking" any time away from him.
